Gary Lineker drops huge Jurgen Klopp hint after emotional Liverpool departure | Football | Sport

He has not confirmed if he will return to coaching again, and now Match of the Day presenter Lineker has dropped a major hint over the German’s next move. “I heard a little rumour that he might end up being president of Borussia Dortmund, which would be amazing,” he said on the The Rest Is Football podcast.

Klopp previously spent seven years in charge at Dortmund after taking over in 2008. During his stint, he won two Bundesliga titles and one German Cup, and led them to the 2011 Champions League final.

Lineker, 63, has also predicted that if Klopp does decide to ultimately head back into management, he won’t be short of offers. “I will be interested to see what Jurgen Klopp does next,” he added. “I think he will definitely take some time out because I think he’s genuine when he says he has run out of energy.

‘You can see why that job is so demanding. There will be a battle for him in a year’s time. Or they’ll be lining up for a year or so’s time.”

Following his final game at Anfield, Klopp himself was coy about his future. And he was pressed on reports on the widespread perception that he will soon be back in management.

“I will work,” he revealed. “I have just finished this job. I don’t know exactly why nobody believes I will probably not be a manager again, but I understand because obviously it seems to be a drug.”

Meanwhile, on Monday evening, it was confirmed that Arne Slot would be replacing him on Merseyside. In a released statement, the Dutchman expressed his gratitude to former club Feyenoord for not trying to block his move.

“As a sportsman, an opportunity to become a head coach in the Premier League, at one of the biggest clubs in the world, is difficult to ignore,” he said. “I am grateful to Feyenoord for their willingness to cooperate in this transition.”
