Illegal Season 3 Review: Neha Sharma and Piyush Mishra’s Legal Drama Series Makes a Razor-Sharp Return to the Courtroom With Splendid Performances (LatestLY Exclusive)

Illegal Season 3 Review: The ‘Mad Lawyer’ is Back! This time, her biggest enemy could be her own uncontrollable ambition. Illegal, created by Sahir Raza and Samar Khan, currently streaming on JioCinema, is one of the best legal drama shows in the industry, deftly navigating the complexities of the profession and the tangled web of the judiciary, corporate world, and politics. While the third season may not surpass the stronger writing of the first, Illegal Season 3 still possesses enough power in its script and performances to be thoroughly engaging. I Can Become a Mini Lawyer: Neha Sharma Talks About Her Upcoming Series ‘Illegal 3’.

Niharika (Neha Sharma) has launched her own law firm, Juris, with her close friend Puneet (Satyadeep Mishra) as a partner. Niharika’s cut-throat, shrewd, and ambitious approach often puts her at ideological odds with the conscientious Puneet, especially when she exploits a clash between a social activist protest and a company to her advantage. She also has to confront her feelings regarding Akshay (Akshay Oberoi), who has returned from London claiming to have resolved his ‘daddy’ issues (spoiler: he hasn’t).

Her biggest nemesis, JJ (Piyush Mishra), is currently enjoying his tenure as a minister, despite being estranged from his son. Before long, he is once again in Niharika’s crosshairs, even as she becomes increasingly like the very person she despises – JJ.

Watch the Trailer of Illegal Season 3:

As with previous seasons, the strongest aspects of Illegal Season 3 are its two central characters, who drive the narrative through its ups and downs. It is compelling to watch Niharika’s moral corruption, which she justifies as ‘ambition’ and JJ’s wily schemes. The show is at its best whenever these two characters are brought together, even if they are often on opposite sides. Neha Sharma continues to excel in the best-written role of her filmography, fully embracing the complexities woven in her character, and deftly portraying the fiery attitude of a woman refusing to bend towards the gender-skewered diktats of her profession. Even if it takes Niharika to some dark grey areas.  Piyush Mishra is outstanding as always, delivering some of the best lines with his usual finesse.

These two characters are so well-developed that it makes some of the supporting characters seem less so in comparison. For instance, Satyadeep Mishra’s Puneet, with his good-heartedness and moral compass, often comes across as too naive and therefore, unrealistically gullible when contrasted with his law firm partner.

Akshay Oberoi’s character sometimes feels like a pace-breaker, although his storyline with his father is more engaging than his romantic pursuit of Niharika. There are a few fascinating new characters this season, such as Neil Bhoopalam’s Dushyant Rathore, a sleazy and arrogant business tycoon who becomes Niharika’s client, and Zayn Marie Khan’s Zoya, a lawyer who ends up having to fight Niharika. Whether you find these characters interesting or not, their performances are undeniably strong. Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Neha Sharma Casts Vote in Father Ajit Sharma’s Constituency in Bihar’s Bhagalpur.

A Still From Illegal Season 3

Like the previous seasons, Illegal Season 3 introduces new cases for Niharika to tackle, and the engaging manner in which they are handled prevents any sense of tedium. From a domestic abuse case involving an ultra-rich couple to the sensitively handled subject of euthanasia, these storylines benefit from strong writing (story by Radhika Anand, screenplay by Sudeep Nigam and Bharat Mishra) and brisk editing, ensuring there is never a dull moment. The new season reaches its peak in the final couple of episodes, where both Niharika and JJ face some intriguing challenges, bringing their rivalry to an interesting crossroads.

Final Thoughts on Illegal Season 3

Illegal Season 3 continues to captivate with its compelling characters, intricate plots, and sharp writing. Despite a few minor shortcomings, the series excels in delivering engaging legal drama and complex moral dilemmas with Neha Sharma and Piyush Mishra in splendid form. Illegal is streaming on JioCinema.
