The service operates an air, rail and road network to keep post and parcels moving between distribution hubs and processing centres.
Most of the Royal Mail network will be running smoothly today, though some UK areas will likely be impacted by delays.
Royal Mail warned that this is due to an issue with its air network which occurred last night.
A Royal Mail statement read: “Last night the flight from Edinburgh to Stansted departed later than planned, due to a delay with some vehicles arriving at the airport.
“As a result, some mail posted in parts of Central and Southern Scotland, due for delivery in parts of London, the South East of England and Northern Ireland may arrive later than planned.”
The postal service reassured UK households that deliveries are “operating as normal” today.
It claimed that rail and road networks operated to schedule over the last 24 hours and that all mail centres processed and despatched letters on time in the same period.
Royal Mail aims to deliver to all addresses it has mail for, six days a week. However, it warned that in a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.
In those cases, Royal Mail will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.
It added: “We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive.”
Pre-empted delays to Royal Mail services will impact customers over the upcoming Spring bank holiday weekend.
Royal Mail will not fulfil any collections or deliveries on Monday, May 27.
