Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd eye superstar, Spurs join Newcastle battle, Chelsea make bid | Football | Sport

Nottingham Forest are facing a possible points deduction for breaching Premier League financial regulations – and they’re going to be cautious in the transfer window this month.

Forest will operate with a ‘sell to buy’ policy as they trim down their first-team squad.

Nuno Espirito Santo will try to loan out or sell his lesser-used players in order to bring down the wage bill.

“There are specific positions that we need, [but] at the same time we need to rebalance the squad in terms of numbers,” he said.

“So ins and outs, we need to be careful and cautious about that because we don’t want to make any kind of decision before things are clear.

“Can we find a solution for the players that are going out – it’s a lot of work, so there has to be a degree of caution. In the middle of the season it’s not easy to get the players you sometimes want.

“We have to organise the squad and it’s not easy to find the right targets.”
