Tennis fans are baffled as to why the Cincinnati Open final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner is being played on a weekday.
It was the same in the Canadian Open, due to the extended format of all Masters 1000 events apart from the Monte Carlo Masters and Paris Masters.
Players have little time to prepare between tournaments due to the 10 to 14-day schedule, rather than a week.
Sinner himself has admitted that the new schedules can be confusing.
He said: “You have the quarterfinals and then you have the semi-final, which is Saturday, and then you have finally Sunday. And now I lost a little bit of the view of when does actually a finalist [plays], because it used to be always Sunday.
“Now, here [in Cincinnati] it’s Monday. In Toronto, it’s Wednesday or Thursday. So it’s difficult even for us players. We lose a little bit of the days of the week, I would say.”
